PlayStation fans protest Sony's plan to end physical game discs
PlayStation users are protesting Sony Interactive Entertainment's decision to end the production of physical game discs for new releases starting in January 2028. During a recent State of Play presentation, which showcased over 30 upcoming titles including Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Marvel’s Wolverine, the official YouTube and Twitch chats were flooded with the slogan “No Disc No Buy”.
Sony stated that the shift toward digital-only releases for new titles is driven by changing consumer habits, noting that digital purchases are increasingly more frequent than physical ones. However, many gamers are expressing frustration, arguing that physical media is essential for allowing users to buy used games, sell their collections, or lend titles to others—capabilities that are significantly more difficult with purely digital libraries.
