PlayStation Network security concerns rise after high-profile account hacks

Security concerns have resurfaced within the PlayStation community following the compromise of high-profile accounts. A prominent community member known as RealRadec, who has over 30,000 followers on X, reported losing control of his profile after attackers successfully changed the associated email address.

Despite attempts to change passwords, sign out of all devices, and re-enable two-factor authentication (2FA), the user was unable to prevent the modification of primary account data. This incident follows a similar breach involving Sacred Symbols podcast host Colin Moriarty earlier this year.

Experts suggest these breaches may stem from social engineering attacks targeting PlayStation customer support. Attackers may not need passwords or 2FA codes if they can convince support staff to change the account's primary email address. Information used to falsely claim ownership can include PSN usernames, email addresses, and transaction details such as purchase dates or transaction IDs, much of which can be found online or through data correlation.
