Sony investigates PlayStation Network security vulnerability
Sony is investigating a security vulnerability affecting PlayStation 5 and PlayStation Network (PSN) users. Reports indicate that unauthorized third parties are able to link unknown child accounts to existing family management settings, effectively bypassing passwords, passkeys, and two-step verification (2FA).
Victims have reported finding multiple unauthorized minor accounts attached to their profiles. This breach allows attackers to potentially access sensitive personal data, such as full names, and perform unauthorized purchases via linked payment methods. Some users have even reported losing total access to their primary profiles.
According to user reports, the issue has been observed since at least early October 2026. A significant complication is that Sony’s current support policies prevent administrators from directly unlinking child members from a family group; the system often requires the profile to reach the registered age of majority before the status can be modified.
Users are advised to check their Family Management settings via the PS5 console settings menu. If unrecognized accounts are found, experts recommend contacting PlayStation Support immediately, adjusting spending limits, and removing saved payment methods.
