Plaza de La Ranita becomes a cultural and tourist hub in Uruapan
The Plaza de La Ranita Artisanal and Cultural Center has established itself as a central cultural and tourist hub in Uruapan, Michoacán. Following a state investment of 19.8 million pesos, the space has undergone renovations to facilitate family gatherings, tourism, and the promotion of regional traditions.
Key features of the center include a monumental mural titled ‘Uruapan, herencia y raíces que viven’ by artist Carlos Campos, which depicts local identity through imagery of artisans, traditional dances, and the Barranca del Cupatitzio National Park. The site also hosts a Casa de las Artesanías shop, offering Michoacán-made textiles, woodwork, pottery, and musical instruments to support the local economy.
María Elena Huerta, Secretary of Urban Development and Mobility, noted that the center’s location and its connection to the Uruapan cable car project aim to integrate mobility, tourism, and public space recovery.
