Huamantlada 2026 leaves one dead and multiple injured in Tlaxcala

The 72nd edition of the Huamantlada in Huamantla, Tlaxcala, resulted in one fatality and approximately 20 medical interventions. Rigoberto Zamudio Meneses, the Secretary of Health for Tlaxcala, described the event as the most accident-prone in five years.

The deceased was a 29-year-old man from Huamantla who suffered severe traumatic brain injury, chest trauma, and a serious lung laceration caused by a bull. Among the injured was a 57-year-old man in critical condition with a skull fracture and a horn wound to the thigh. A 24-year-old American woman residing in Puebla was also treated and reported to be in stable condition.

Emergency response efforts involved a large-scale operation including 183 personnel, seven ambulances (two intensive care units), and support from the Mexican Red Cross, as well as medical units from Puebla, Hidalgo, and the State of Mexico. The event involved 21 bulls weighing between 400 and 520 kilograms.
