Plaza Mayor medallions featured in new free web application
Manuel Gómez, a 23-year-old founder of Arume, has developed a free interactive web application designed to highlight the historical medallions located in Salamanca's Plaza Mayor. The project was created altruistically to help both locals and tourists discover the history behind the reliefs that often go unnoticed.
The platform is accessible via mobile browsers and is designed for high usability, functioning even without continuous network coverage. To accommodate international visitors, the application includes translations in eight different languages. Users can identify specific medallions by using the City Hall clock as a reference point or by following the stone numbering under the arches. The app provides historical data for each relief, including the subject represented, the sculptor, and the year of creation, though Gómez noted that some historical details, such as specific sculptors or dates, were unavailable during his research.
