Pleasanton businesses hit in widespread smash-and-grab burglary spree
At least 18 businesses in Pleasanton, California, were targeted in a coordinated smash-and-grab burglary spree early Thursday morning. The majority of the affected establishments were restaurants located across multiple shopping centers, including Mission Plaza and areas near Pacific Pearl.
Police reported that the break-ins began around 4 a.m. Suspects were observed smashing glass windows to gain entry, stealing cash and equipment such as cash registers. In one instance, four individuals in hooded sweatshirts fled in a sedan without license plates. Law enforcement attempted to pursue the vehicle but terminated the chase west of Highway 84 due to safety concerns.
Local business owners expressed significant distress over the incidents. One owner reported the theft of cash from a tea shop, while surveillance footage from a sushi restaurant captured a burglar removing an entire cash register. The spree follows recent targeting of businesses in nearby Danville and Dublin.
