Pleasure Beach targets 2027 reopening for historic River Caves
The River Caves dark ride at Pleasure Beach, a 121-year-old attraction, is facing a long-term closure due to significant water leaks. Director Amanda Thompson reported that thousands of gallons of water have been lost from the channels, making continued operation financially unfeasible and environmentally unacceptable.
Because the park is built on sand, locating the exact source of the leaks has proven difficult. While some cracks in the channels can be repaired, other leaks remain unexplained. Thompson is working with engineers to find solutions and aims for a potential reopening in 2027 following a renovation. Plans include renewing the Egyptian and Cambodian temple scenes, though a final decision on the Blue Grotto section has not been made.
