Pleasure boat strikes embankment near Haneda Airport, injuring 10
A pleasure boat carrying 10 people struck a coastal embankment and ran aground near Haneda Airport on the night of August 24, 2026. The vessel was traveling from Yumenoshima in Koto Ward, Tokyo, toward a fireworks festival at Yokohama Port.
All 10 passengers sustained injuries, with two reported to be seriously injured. Authorities noted that the boat appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision.
The Japan Coast Guard and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police are investigating the incident. The Coast Guard has begun examining the vessel's damage and the collision site, looking into potential charges of professional negligence resulting in danger to navigation and professional negligence resulting in injury.
