Plenty Highway upgrade adds 27km of sealed road in Central Australia

A 27km section of the Plenty Highway in Central Australia has been upgraded to a dual-lane sealed road, extending the total length of dual-lane sealed road on the 499km highway to 155km. The completed works stretch from three kilometres west of the Plenty River to the Lucy Creek access road turn-off, including access to the Jervois Station Roadhouse.

The project involved constructing a concrete causeway at the Plenty and Marshall River crossings at Bonya Creek, building four floodways and seven culverts, and realigning the Lucy Creek Mine intersection. Additionally, six intersections were formalised with the installation of new cattle grids.

This upgrade is part of the $217.5 million Outback Way Corridor Upgrade – NT project, jointly funded by the Australian Government ($174 million) and the Northern Territory Government ($43.5 million). The highway is a vital link in the 2,720km Outback Way, connecting Western Australia to Queensland and supporting the mining, agriculture, and tourism sectors.
