Pleszew hosts religious spectacle depicting life of St. John the Baptist

The parish of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist in Pleszew, Poland, hosted the second edition of its event titled ‘Kaleo Fara Pleszew’. Held on September 5, 2026, the performance took place in the town square and focused on the life and martyrdom of St. John the Baptist.

The theatrical production combined music and history to depict the prophet's life, including his preparation for the coming of Christ and his eventual execution following a conflict with Herod Antipas and Herodias. The event concluded with a symbolic procession, moving the representation of the saint's body from the town center to the parish church.

According to Father Dariusz Brylak, the term ‘Kaleo’ is derived from Greek, signifying a calling or assembly of people. The event was the result of several weeks of preparation by parishioners.
