Plettenberg City Council halts council meeting livestream trial
The Plettenberg City Council has unanimously decided to halt a planned trial for livestreaming council meetings. The decision follows long-standing efforts by the FDP to introduce digital access to the city parliament.
Two primary obstacles were cited for the cancellation: high costs and data protection regulations. A trial consisting of six sessions was estimated to cost approximately 8,881.50 euros using an external provider, or 8,188.22 euros if using internal technology. Additionally, the administration noted that the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (LDI NRW) considers the use of YouTube for public institutions to be currently unlawful under data protection laws.
