Plettenberg considers underground containers to manage city center waste

Authorities in Plettenberg are considering the installation of underground waste containers to address long-standing issues with improperly placed trash bins in the city center. The waste disposal association (Zweckverband für Abfallbeseitigung) and local administration have begun inspecting potential locations, specifically targeting areas such as Neue Straße and Untere Wilhelmstraße.

The initiative follows years of debate regarding the visual impact and logistical difficulties caused by mobile green units and mismanaged bins. Previous attempts to resolve the situation, including appeals to residents, were deemed unsuccessful. Local council members have previously described the situation as an ‘unhaltbarer Zustand’ (untenable state), noting that dozens of bins were often incorrectly positioned, leading to aesthetic concerns and pest issues.
