Pleven District Court holds 12th hearing in fatal Siyana Popova case

The Pleven District Court has commenced its 12th hearing regarding the fatal traffic accident that occurred on March 31, 2025, near the village of Telish. The accident resulted in the death of 12-year-old Siyana Popova and injuries to her grandfather.

Defendant Georgi Aleksandrov remains in custody after the court rejected three previous requests from his defense to reduce his detention to a lighter measure. The proceedings have faced delays due to the pending completion of a complex combined automotive and medical forensic expertise, which has been under preparation for nearly six months.

To date, 11 open hearings have been held, during which key witnesses and experts have been questioned. Family and friends gathered for a peaceful protest outside the courthouse to demand a swift and fair verdict.
