Pljevlja authorities seize 3.9 tons of meat in illegal slaughterhouse crackdown

Authorities in Pljevlja conducted a coordinated inspection operation targeting illegal slaughterhouses and the unauthorized distribution of meat products. The action, carried out by the Coordination Body for Harmonization and Monitoring of Inspection Supervision, took place in two phases on July 31 and between August 7 and 8.

Inspectors identified 15 illegal and unregistered facilities performing slaughtering activities without proper permits or veterinary oversight. As a result, approximately 3,894 kilograms of meat lacking mandatory traceability documentation were seized and destroyed.

The operation also addressed broader issues in tourism, hospitality, and trade, including fiscal compliance, labor rights, and sanitary conditions. Total fines issued during the crackdown amounted to 73,400 euros. Milutin Butorović emphasized that the focus on controlling animal-origin food production is essential to protecting public health and neutralizing the grey economy.
