PLN wins Gold award for solar-powered water solutions in Asmat

PT PLN (Persero) Unit Induk Wilayah Papua and Papua Barat has received a Gold award at the 2026 Indonesian SDGs Awards in the Environment category. The recognition follows the company's successful implementation of a clean water solution in Asmat Regency.

To address the region's freshwater crisis, PLN utilized solar-powered desalination technology. The system employs reverse osmosis and steam distillation to convert brackish and swamp water into clear, odorless, and safe drinking water. The project is powered by micro solar power plants (PLTS Mikro) and includes supporting infrastructure such as water storage tanks and pumping systems.
