Plombières scout camp investigation launched over voyeurism allegations
Belgian authorities are investigating allegations of voyeurism at a youth camp in Plombières, Liège province, following the abrupt departure of approximately 125 scouts. The incident occurred during a camp organized by the KLJ, a Flemish Catholic youth movement.
A 54-year-old operator of the campsite was arrested and subsequently released under conditions. He is suspected of voyeurism, with reports suggesting a hidden camera may have been discovered in the shower area or that he utilized a double wall to spy on occupants.
While officials have confirmed that camp leaders were victims of the incident, Jef Malfliet, national president of the KLJ, stated, "We can confirm that the victims are members of the staff. But we unfortunately cannot confirm that they are the only ones. It is therefore possible that children are also concerned." The investigation by the Verviers prosecutor's office is ongoing to determine the full extent of the incident.
