Plopeni Mechanical Plant Workers Protest Over Management Arrest and Staffing

On 27 July 2026, roughly 100 workers gathered in front of the Plopeni Mechanical Plant in Romania to protest the recent house arrests of the plant’s director, Tiberiu Pîrvu, and commercial director, Liliana Sorescu. The arrests were made by the National Anticorruption Directorate on bribery charges, with investigators seizing €500,000 and luxury watches.

The employees, many from the pyrotechnics section, demand the removal of TESA‑appointed staff and the appointment of an interim director. They warn that an excess of TESA and retired officials in administrative roles leaves production workers vulnerable to layoffs, and they threatened to halt plant operations from early August if their demands are not met.
