Plovdiv Airport carrier claims disputed over lack of licenses
Claims made by the Executive Director of Plovdiv Airport, Krasimir Peshev, regarding new flight routes have been disputed by official documents. Peshev recently announced that the new carrier, Balkan Skyways, would launch eight new destinations with flights twice weekly using an Airbus A320-200 starting in March 2027.
However, information obtained from the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Civil Aviation Administration indicates that Balkan Skyways does not currently possess an air operator certificate or an operational license. As of September 17, 2026, the company has not yet submitted a formal application for certification. Furthermore, there is no record of the company owning or leasing the promised Airbus A320-200 aircraft, nor is there evidence of any other operator committing to these routes.
