Plovdiv Airport set for concession procedure in 2027

The Bulgarian Ministry of Transport and Communications has announced that preparations are underway to offer Plovdiv Airport for a state concession. The procedure to select a concessionaire is expected to open in early 2027. The ministry stated that the move is intended to bring the airport's infrastructure into compliance with necessary standards.

This announcement comes amid discussions regarding the airport's operational future and the potential introduction of eight new regular flight lines. However, questions remain regarding the company Balkan Skyways EOOD, which airport executive director Krasimir Peshev has presented as a future carrier. There are ongoing inquiries concerning the financial stability of the airport and the carrier, specifically regarding licenses, aircraft availability, and the airport's financial obligations.
