Plovdiv and Burgas launch new toxicochemical laboratories
New high-tech toxicochemical laboratories have been launched in Plovdiv and Burgas to accelerate the analysis of blood samples for alcohol and drugs. These facilities aim to eliminate significant backlogs in forensic testing, with results expected to be ready within one to 14 days.
The Plovdiv laboratory, located at the Second District Police Station, utilizes advanced equipment including gas chromatography with mass spectrometry and solid-phase extraction. This technology ensures reliable detection even at very low substance concentrations.
Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev inspected the new facility, noting that while the project began in 2023, implementation was delayed due to public procurement appeals. He called upon the prosecution to ensure that rapid laboratory results lead to equally swift legal actions and case closures to prevent innocent individuals from facing prolonged uncertainty.
