Plovdiv court detains 14-year-old accused of killing mother

A Plovdiv District Court has ordered the detention of a 14-year-old boy accused of murdering his 45-year-old mother on October 9. Prosecutor Ginka Lazarova stated that the victim was stabbed multiple times, leading to her death.

Lazarova expressed her belief that the act was premeditated rather than committed in a state of emotional distress. While the exact motive remains unclear, the prosecution maintains that the minor understood the significance of his actions. Following the incident, the boy reportedly called emergency services himself and cooperated with the investigation.

A psychiatric evaluation is pending to determine the minor's mental state. Due to his age, the legal penalty for the crime ranges from three to ten years in prison. The court hearing was held behind closed doors to protect the identity of the minor.
