Plovdiv court grants monetary guarantee to teenager accused of assaulting Nepali citizens

The Plovdiv District Court has confirmed a monetary guarantee for 18-year-old Teodor Velev, allowing him to remain free following an assault on two Nepali citizens. Velev and a 17-year-old accomplice are accused of attacking the victims based on hooliganism and racial motives, causing light bodily harm.

During the court proceedings, Prosecutor Dimitar Pehlivanov presented video evidence showing the aggressive attack, noting that the assailants shouted, “We will kill them.” The prosecution argued for pre-trial detention, citing the defendant's involvement with a radical club and the potential for further crimes. However, the court ruled that the risk of the defendant fleeing or committing new offenses was not high enough to warrant detention.

Velev has admitted to the assault and expressed regret, with his lawyer, Stoyan Memtsov, stating that the defense is prepared to discuss a potential plea agreement with the prosecution. The 17-year-old accomplice remains under the supervision of a child pedagogical inspector.
