Plovdiv judicial proceedings follow fatal murder and skinhead group violence

Legal proceedings are underway in Plovdiv following the brutal murder of 37-year-old Georgi Kuzev and a separate unprovoked attack on two Nepalese citizens. The investigation into the murder has revealed connections to a radical skinhead group.

In the murder case, a group of five teenagers is facing judicial decisions regarding their detention. Defense lawyers are appealing the arrest of two girls, while the remaining three youths remain in custody. Protesters have gathered at the Plovdiv Judicial Palace demanding the strictest possible sentences, regardless of the perpetrators' minor status.

Parallel to the murder investigation, authorities identified the suspects in a violent assault on two Nepalese workers after discovering video footage of the attack on a teenager's phone. Two suspects, aged 17 and 18, were released on bail for the assault, though they are linked to the group involved in the Kuzev murder.

In response to the violence, Plovdiv Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov has requested 45 million BGN for a modern video surveillance system to monitor the city and detect dangerous behavior. Meanwhile, the Plovdiv Ombudsman, Borislav Stamatov, emphasized the role of family in preventing such radicalization, calling for a national strategy to address youth aggression.
