Plovdiv district official calls for urgent tree maintenance

Ventsislava Lyubenova, mayor of the Severen district in Plovdiv, has called for urgent measures to address the lack of funding, specialized equipment, and long-term strategy for the city's green systems. During a meeting with municipal representatives and forestry experts, it was revealed that 660 orders to remove dry or dangerous trees and prune crowns remain unfulfilled out of 1,056 total orders issued as of June 15, 2026.

Currently, only a single team from the 'Gardens and Parks' municipal enterprise is working on a scheduled basis in the district. Lyubenova emphasized that the insufficient capacity for maintenance poses a growing safety risk to citizens, noting that the administration should not wait for storms or accidents to occur before taking action. She requested concrete commitments, secured financing, and a clear work schedule to resolve the backlog.
