Plovdiv doctors urge early breast cancer screening
Medical specialists in Plovdiv are emphasizing the importance of early breast cancer detection through regular prevention rather than waiting for symptoms to appear. During breast cancer awareness month in October, doctors from the High-Tech Expert Center for Diagnosis, Biopsy, and Surgical Treatment of Breast Cancer at University Hospital Kaspera highlighted that early detection significantly improves treatment success rates.
Diagnostic methods should be tailored to an individual's age, breast tissue structure, and risk factors. For women aged 40 to 69, mammography is recommended every two years. For younger women or those with dense breast tissue, ultrasound serves as a valuable complementary method. Other advanced options include tomosynthesis for detailed structural assessment and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for high-risk patients, particularly those with genetic predispositions.
Associate Professor Katya Doikova noted that there is no single best method for every woman, and sometimes multiple examinations are required to obtain complete diagnostic information.
