Plovdiv fraud suspect arrested for €50,200 mobile‑phone scam
On 27 July 2026 the Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office charged a 34‑year‑old man with fraud after he convinced a 46‑year‑old resident to pay a total of €50,200 for mobile phones that were never delivered. The suspect claimed he could obtain the latest phone models at low prices through a lease arrangement with a telecommunications company, but repeatedly used false identities and phone numbers to obtain the payments.
After several months the victim reported the deception to police. The court, at the prosecutor’s request, ordered the suspect to be held in pre‑trial detention.
The case was classified as a dangerous recidivist offense under several articles of the Bulgarian Criminal Code.
