Plovdiv Jewish cemetery park restoration officially opened
A ceremony was held in Plovdiv to mark the official opening of a newly restored alley and pedestrian area within the Jewish cemetery park. The project, organized by the Shalom Plovdiv Jewish Organization, included the beautification of the site and the installation of a monumental cast-iron sign created by sculptor Ivan Totev.
The restoration was made possible through a donation from Dr. Narcis Kaleva-Hodgeva and Dr. Guray Hodgev. The event was attended by various public figures, including former Bulgarian President Petar Stoyanov, Deputy Mayor Plamen Panov, and former Foreign Minister Solomon Passy.
During the ceremony, Petar Stoyanov highlighted the unique nature of the Plovdiv Jewish community, noting that many of those buried there have living descendants in the city. He also reflected on the historical pride of Bulgaria for having saved nearly 50,000 Jews during the war.
