Plovdiv Mayor proposes three options for General Kolev Street
Plovdiv Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov has launched a public consultation regarding the future of General Kolev Street in the Smirnenski district. Following recent roadwork, the street has temporarily functioned as a communal space for children to play and residents to socialize due to limited vehicle access.
Three primary options have been presented to the residents: 1. Permanently closing the street to vehicles to create a dedicated play and social space, with parking relocated to side streets and no entry from Peshpersko Shose Boulevard. 2. Reopening the street to full vehicular traffic to restore its role as a major transport artery for the district. 3. A seasonal compromise where the street remains closed to cars during the summer months for community use but reopens to traffic at the start of the school year.
Preliminary feedback indicates a gender divide in preference, with mothers reportedly favoring the pedestrian zone and fathers advocating for the restoration of vehicle access. The municipality also plans to beautify the area around the existing playground and tennis table.
