Plovdiv Municipality issues free student transport card guidelines

Plovdiv Municipality has issued detailed guidelines for students to obtain free public transport cards. The measure, introduced following an ordinance passed on August 3, 2026, is expected to benefit over 20,000 students.

Students aged 7 to 14 can receive their cards directly through their schools, provided the school has submitted a list of interested children to the municipality. In these cases, parents must submit a standard application form along with a student-sized photo of the child, with the child's three names written on the back. The school then coordinates with transport bureaus to collect and distribute the cards.

If a school does not participate in this organized distribution, parents or legal guardians must visit a transport bureau in person. For students who have turned 14, including those in their final year of secondary education, a personal visit to a transport bureau is mandatory. To qualify, at least one parent or legal guardian must have a permanent or current address within the Plovdiv Municipality. Required documentation includes a birth certificate or other age-verifying document, a parent's identity document, and proof of address if applying based on a current residence.
