Plovdiv municipality leases land previously slated for parking garage
The Plovdiv Municipality is facing criticism over its management of urban space amid a growing parking crisis. Local authorities in the Severen district have announced a tender to lease an 831-square-meter municipal plot, formerly the site of the ‘Veselo Selo’ restaurant, for a period of 10 years at a monthly rate of 790 euros.
This decision has drawn scrutiny because the site was previously designated in 2018 for the construction of a five-story parking garage capable of holding approximately 120 vehicles. Subsequent plans had also suggested a combined administrative building for the district with multi-level parking. Neither project has been realized, and critics argue that leasing the land for a relatively low sum of 94,800 euros (excluding VAT) over a decade limits the city's ability to pursue its own infrastructure investments in the area.
