Plovdiv Municipality reaches property exchange deal to resolve Maritsa-South dispute

The Plovdiv Municipality and investor Atanas Drakachiev (A and N Investment) have reached a principle agreement to exchange a disputed plot of land on Maritsa-South Boulevard for a different municipal property. This decision follows significant public pressure and protests by local residents, who used human chains to stop construction machinery to protect the green space near two playgrounds.

The new plot is located in the Smirnenski district at the corner of Perushitsa and Pchela streets, near the Plovdiv Mall. The area is slightly over half a decare, with a total built-up area corresponding to the original project.

To finalize the exchange, administrative procedures must be completed, including the creation of a new Detailed Development Plan (PUP), the establishment of an independent regulated land plot (UPI), and the preparation of a new investment project. Once the documentation is ready, the proposal will be submitted to the Plovdiv Municipal Council for a final vote.
