Plovdiv Municipality to consider buyout of disputed Maritsa-South construction site

Following a meeting between residents, investor Atanas Darakchiev, and Plovdiv Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov, construction activities on a disputed 535-square-meter plot near Maritsa-South Boulevard have been temporarily frozen. Heavy machinery has been removed from the site.

The Plovdiv Municipality is currently preparing a market valuation of the land to facilitate a potential buyout. A formal proposal for the purchase will be submitted for a vote at an upcoming session of the Municipal Council.

Investor Atanas Darakchiev confirmed that construction will remain halted until October 16 to allow for the valuation and pricing process. He stated that options for bartering or donating the land are not acceptable, though he expressed willingness to accept payment in two or three installments. If the municipality fails to reach a buyout agreement, the firm intends to proceed with its original construction project.
