Plovdiv municipality to launch emergency pest control after giant rat seen on block mailboxes
Residents of the Iztochen district in Plovdiv reported a large rat climbing the walls and mailboxes of a residential block during daylight. One witness said, “I saw it with my own eyes – it was a very big rodent,” and expressed concern that “rats spread diseases,” especially for children.
The municipal pest‑control unit, the Disinfection Station, said it normally carries out seasonal rodent control on public property and will conduct an emergency treatment at the site on Wednesday morning after the complaint. Officials noted that no official signal had been logged for increased rodent activity in the area this year. Rodent specialists consider such daytime activity unusual and likely an isolated case, but they urged residents to report sightings so that extra treatments can be carried out when needed.
