Plovdiv museum to host ethnographic conference on Bulgarian village and city transformations
The Regional Ethnographic Museum in Plovdiv will host a scientific conference titled ‘The Bulgarian Village and City – Transformations in Time’ on October 22 and 23, 2026. The forum aims to examine the historical development and shifts in both rural and urban environments through an ethnographic lens.
Participants will explore the interaction between tradition and modernity, focusing on how the relationship between village and city has evolved. Key research topics include spatial organization, community structures, and public communication spaces—ranging from traditional village squares and churches to modern urban cafes and streets. The conference will also cover material culture, including housing, clothing, food, and labor practices, as well as social regulations, customary law, and oral traditions.
Researchers interested in participating must submit their applications via the museum’s website by September 15, 2026. All approved materials from the conference will be published in a peer-reviewed scientific collection.
