Plovdiv authorities charge 14-year-old with mother's murder

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of his 45-year-old mother in the Severen district of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The incident occurred in the early hours of October 9 in a residential building on Brezovska Street. According to investigators, the crime was committed with a sharp object, and the teenager himself called the 112 emergency number to report the deed.

The Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office and the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior stated that the motive appears to be “extremely personal, related to family relations.” There were no reports of prior conflicts between the mother and son. The boy, an eighth-grade student at a local school, had recently moved to Plovdiv from Stara Zagra to live with his mother after previously residing with his grandparents.

The Plovdiv District Court is scheduled to consider the prosecution's request for the permanent detention of the minor. Due to the suspect's age, the proceedings are being held behind closed doors. If convicted of parricide under Article 116 of the Penal Code, the minor faces a prison sentence of between 3 and 10 years, as per the legal provisions for juveniles.
