Plovdiv Southeast Bypass: API allocates 500,000 euros for archaeological research

The Road Infrastructure Agency (API) has signed a contract worth approximately 500,000 euros with the National Archaeological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences to conduct excavations for the Plovdiv Southeast Bypass project. Archaeologists are expected to begin work within days, with an initial timeframe of 90 days to survey the terrain and identify potential findings that may require conservation.

Various institutions, including the Plovdiv Municipality and the Regional Administration, are working to resolve obstacles to the project. This includes the removal of illegal structures along the route and the relocation of a transformer station. Additionally, the project is undergoing redesign due to weak soil conditions and the need for improved drainage measures.

The 4.5 km bypass, valued at over 41 million BGN from the national budget, aims to divert transit traffic away from Plovdiv and shorten travel times to Asenovgrad and Smolyan. Due to the time elapsed since the 2021 tender, price indexation will be required before an annex is signed with the contractor, Trace Hold Group. Construction activities are still planned to restart this autumn.
