Plovdiv to implement real-time risk detection security system

Plovdiv is preparing to implement a large-scale, centralized security system designed to recognize and signal risky situations in real time. Rather than relying solely on reviewing footage after a crime has occurred, the new concept aims to provide proactive prevention by identifying potential threats as they develop.

Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov stated that work on this security and risk prevention concept began in September 2024 and is not a direct reaction to recent local criminal incidents. The project involves hundreds of cameras and various sensors connected to a unified analytical platform. This platform will monitor key public spaces, including parks, city gardens, central zones, bus stops, and busy intersections. For example, the transport component alone includes 196 stops and 74 intersections.

Georgi Kisyov, a representative of the development team, described the system using a biological metaphor: the cameras and sensors act as the eyes and ears, the analytical platform serves as the brain, and the coordination center facilitates the response. The system will use specialized software to analyze behavior and flag predefined risk criteria, such as unusual gatherings of people, allowing authorities to react before situations escalate.
