Plovdiv upgrades underpass on Tsarigradsko shose and revamps Cosmos cinema plaza

The Plovdiv municipality completed a cosmetic renovation of an underpass on Tsarigradsko shose in the Eastern district. The work, costing about €10,000, included concrete resurfacing, repainting, stair repairs, installation of anti‑vandal plexiglass covers, 12 surveillance cameras, a sound‑voice warning system and floor heating. The project, overseen by district mayor Emil Rusinov, took one year and eight months and removed over 3.5 tonnes of waste.

Simultaneously, the city began a transformation of the public space in front of the historic Cosmos cinema. From 3 August to 28 August the north side of Glaston Street will be closed to pedestrians and bus stop 263 will be temporarily suspended while new water‑utility connections, pavement, lighting and green islands are installed. The redesign, led by Kostadin Dimitrov and the design firm Tektonika‑B, adds benches, a child‑friendly drinking fountain, bike parking and wheelchair‑accessible routes, creating a modern multifunctional area for cultural and community activities.
