Plug Power gets final go‑ahead for 30‑MW Barrow hydrogen plant in Cumbria

Plug Power, a U.S. electrolyser specialist, has secured the final investment decision for its 30‑megawatt Barrow green hydrogen project in Cumbria, United Kingdom. The project will install six GenEco PEM electrolyser units capable of producing about 100 gigawatt‑hours of green hydrogen per year.

Construction is moving from planning to physical build, with steelwork commencing as the UK hydrogen pipeline begins delivering the necessary infrastructure. The facility is slated to be operational by 2028.
