Plugable launches new USB-C hubs with high-refresh-rate support

Plugable has released two new USB-C hubs, a 6-in-1 model and an 8-in-1 model with Ethernet, designed to support high-refresh-rate monitors for Mac users. Utilizing HDMI 2.1, these hubs allow compatible Macs to drive displays at up to 4K 144Hz or 8K 30Hz without requiring additional drivers.

The hubs provide up to 85W of pass-through laptop charging. According to CEO Lynn Smurthwaite-Murphy, the products aim to provide flexibility and help customers extend the life of their existing hardware. To achieve 4K 144Hz or 8K 30Hz, users require a compatible Mac running macOS 13 or later, specifically featuring M1 Pro/Max, M2 Pro/Max, or M3 and newer processors. Base M1 and M2 chips are limited to 4K at 60Hz.
