Plus supermarket criticized for selling imported organic apples

The Dutch supermarket chain Plus is facing renewed criticism regarding the sale of imported organic produce. A consumer, Sandra Reuvekamp, sparked a discussion on LinkedIn after discovering organic apples from Argentina in a local store for 3.99 euros, noting a lack of available organic Dutch alternatives at the time.

Reuvekamp expressed concerns over the environmental footprint caused by transporting fruit globally and urged supermarkets to prioritize local products to support domestic farmers. This follows a similar controversy in July involving the sale of organic blueberries from Portugal during the Dutch berry season. In response to previous criticisms, Plus has stated that they aim to source products as locally as possible when feasible.
