PLUVARA rain collectors offer decentralized water for forest fire protection

To combat the risks of forest fires during prolonged dry periods, decentralized water reservoirs are being proposed to supplement existing firefighting water concepts. These reservoirs aim to provide additional reserves and shorten transport distances, particularly in remote areas far from towns or well-developed roads.

Strategically placed at forest edges or access roads, these systems can utilize rainwater rather than drinking water. A technical solution developed in Gießen, the PLUVARA rain collector, offers a way to implement this. The system operates without the need for roof connections, water, or electricity. It uses a 3.15 square meter collection area to filter and store rainwater in a 1,000-liter IBC container. Multiple containers can be combined to scale the storage capacity to the specific needs of a location.
