Plymouth hosts Seafest maritime festival and research events

Plymouth recently hosted two major community events: the annual Seafest celebration and the University of Plymouth’s Voyage of Discovery research festival.

Seafest Plymouth drew approximately 40,000 attendees to the city’s waterfront, including the Barbican and Sutton Harbour. The maritime festival featured seafood demonstrations by local chefs, fish auctions to benefit the Fishermen’s Mission, and interactive displays such as lobster pot-making and plastic shredding. Activities also included sea-shanty bands, water sports, and coastal legend trails.

Simultaneously, the University of Plymouth held the Voyage of Discovery: Exploring Research Together, a free community event funded by the EU as part of the European Researchers' Night. The program included Antarctic research presentations, discussions on future city design, and hands-on demonstrations involving humanoid robots and science shows. The festival aimed to bring academic research directly to the public across various locations, including the city centre and Liskeard Library.
