Plzeň City Approves New Covered Swimming Pool Near University Campus

The municipality of Plzeň confirmed a memorandum with the West Bohemian University to build a covered swimming pool on the Borských Polích site. The agreement, signed by Mayor Roman Zarzycký (ANO) and university rector Miroslav Lávička, resolves earlier university concerns about construction vibrations affecting nearby research labs. The project, designed by AVE architekt, will also include a sports hall and new parking facilities. The budget has increased from 380 million to about 550 million Czech crowns, with construction expected to start in 2028 and last at least two years.

The pool will feature a 25‑metre indoor basin and an outdoor swimming area, while the sports hall will be built on municipal land. The university will retain access to parking spaces, addressing longstanding shortages on campus.
