Plzeň implements new greenery management and urban renovations
Plzeň is implementing new urban management strategies to combat drought and heatwaves. In the Plzeň 4 district, authorities plan to introduce ‘mosaic mowing’ across approximately 70 hectares of greenery starting in the 2027 growing season. This method involves leaving patches of grass longer to protect the soil from overheating and moisture loss, while also providing habitats for pollinators.
The district is also prioritizing the planting of more drought-resistant tree species, such as maples, based on local environmental conditions.
Additionally, the city has completed a 26.3 million CZK renovation of the Pětatřicátníků Orchards transit hub. The project transformed a neglected area into a modernized public space featuring green roofs, new planters, and automated irrigation. The redesign includes permeable paving to facilitate rainwater absorption and the replacement of damaged trees with ten new plane trees.
