Plzeň rail traffic halted after boy climbs onto Pendolino roof
A 14-year-old boy caused a major disruption to rail services in the Czech Republic after climbing onto the roof of a Pendolino train. The incident occurred on a train traveling from Plzeň-Jižní Předměstí toward Stříbro.
Upon receiving reports of the boy on the roof at approximately 20:22, a dispatcher from Czech Railways stopped the train at the Kozolupy stop. The incident forced a complete halt to rail traffic along that section of the track. Following the emergency stop, the teenager fled the scene but was later located by police near the station and handed over to his mother.
Authorities and Czech Railways have highlighted the extreme dangers of ‘train surfing,’ noting that Pendolino trains can reach speeds of 160 km/h. Such actions pose fatal risks from falls, collisions with trackside obstacles, or contact with overhead electrical lines. Police from the Plzeň Bory district are investigating the matter.
