Plzen police station roof copper theft foiled by officers

In the early hours of a recent night, a 34‑year‑old man attempted to steal copper roofing material and a lightning‑rod from the roof of the municipal police station on Pobřežní Street in Plzen, Czech Republic. A police officer on duty heard the sounds of metal being pried off and, together with additional patrols, ascended the roof via a ladder. The suspect was spotted pulling at the copper sheeting and was ordered to descend. He complied, admitting he was trying to earn money by selling the copper to scrap dealers and said the idea came from acquaintances on the street.

The incident was passed to the Czech State Police (PČR) for further investigation. Police officials noted that previous attempts to steal roof material from the same building had occurred, prompting the rapid response.

The theft was halted without injury, and the suspect was taken into custody pending legal action.
