Plzeňský Prazdroj to increase beer prices from October 1

Plzeňský Prazdroj, the largest Czech brewery, will increase prices for certain beer products starting October 1. The price adjustment will affect draught beer from kegs and tanks, select cans, and some bottled varieties. On average, prices will rise by 2.6 percent, which equates to approximately 70 haléřů (0.029 EUR) per half-liter.

This marks the first price change for the iconic Pilsner Urquell lager since 2023. The brewery cited rising costs for materials and commodities as the primary drivers. Specifically, tensions in the Middle East and the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz have led to increased oil prices, impacting logistics and transport, while rising aluminum costs have affected the canned beer segment.

The price adjustment aligns with the year-on-year inflation rate estimated by the Czech National Bank at approximately 2.2 percent. The brewery stated that the increase is necessary to maintain product quality and continue investing in production innovations and infrastructure. While the brewery sets the base prices, the final retail and restaurant prices remain at the discretion of individual sellers and retailers.
