PM-84 Glauberyt submachine guns linked to accidental discharges

Technical defects in the PM-84/98 Glauberyt submachine gun series have been identified as the cause of several accidental discharges involving Polish soldiers. Recent legal proceedings and ballistic expert testimonies suggest that the weapon's design may allow for uncontrolled shots, even when the safety is engaged or when the fire selector is set to single shot.

In one notable case, a soldier was acquitted on October 21 after being accused of negligence following a shooting incident involving an illegal migrant. Ballistic expert Zenon Zakrzewski indicated that the weapon's construction could potentially trigger a shot if dropped on the ground. Another investigation into an incident at the Nowa Łuka post was dismissed by prosecutors in December 2024, citing technical flaws in the weapon as the direct cause of injuries to two soldiers.

The Glauberyt series, originally developed in the 1970s and produced by Zakłady Metalowe Łucznik, has been in service since the 1980s. While designed to improve safety by firing from a closed bolt, years of intensive use and potential design vulnerabilities have raised concerns regarding the safety of personnel using these aging firearms during patrol duties.
